Cruise the Inside Passage

Set sail out of Seattle or Vancouver and cruise north to the town of Ketchikan where you can watch salmon run in the creek and visit the Saxman village where you can learn about the art of carving totem poles – you might just pick up a few words of the local Inuit language!

Travel on to capital of Alaska – Juneau, which can only be reached by flight or ship and visit the massive, but receding Mendenhall Glacier. Continue on to Skagway which was the entrance to the Gold Rush route of the 1800’s and take the train ride through the mountains that retraces the route of many pioneers. Spend your final Alaskan vacation days cruising through Glacier Bay where you will view glacier after glacier.

Interior of Alaska

After cruising the inside passage, travel by train for a full day to the interior of Alaska and the entrance to Denali National Park. En route you will glimpse Mount Denali whose peak will most likely be shrouded in clouds. It is said that only 30% of visitors to the park actually see the peak. On a trip to Alaska in the summer of 2018 I was fortunate to actually see her in all her glory for a few minutes after dinner one evening.
